Soweto Greendale House celebrates Heritage Day with cultural performances
The day saw the Mphatlalatsane Cultural Group as well as other local traditional dance groups entertaining the attendees with traditional dances.
The Soweto Greendale House, in partnership with Ekujabuleni Kwabantwana Home of Care, hosted a heritage celebration event at Soweto Hospice on September 24.

Jafta Malungane from Ekujabuleni Kwabantwana Home of Care said the day was a huge success as they highlighted the importance of understanding and celebrating the heritage of different cultures.

Children from the area who attended the event received donations of care packs that consisted of sanitary towels, a pencil case and wrist bands as a token of appreciation for their participation.
“The community of Diepkloof joined and celebrated with us. We participated in indigenous games such as dibeke, skipping and diketo.
“We had different stalls showcasing handmade cultural items such as beads, crochet items, and traditional clothes.
“Today, we celebrate our rich cultural diversity, unique traditions, and the beauty of our differences. Let’s embrace our heritage and promote unity in diversity, cultural preservation, mutual respect, tolerance and pride in our identity.
“We should also spread the message of learning from one another, celebrating our achievements and embracing our differences because at the end of the day, we are all Africans.”
Malungane expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who joined them in the celebration and urged residents to respect each other’s different cultures and heritage.
