High 5 show empowers Spark Primary learners to tackle stress and anxiety

The inspiration came from Key Cheytanov, founder of 3RC and creator of High 5. Her daughter was bullied at school.

The High Five show rolled out across South Africa, visiting 80 primary schools across Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

It also stopped at Spark Primary School in Protea on September 12.

Through this engaging and interactive session, the High 5 team empowered the children to embrace kindness, resilience, safety, bravery and self-acceptance in their daily lives.

These interactive theatre shows were designed to help children aged 8-11 years deal with the stress and anxiety they face in a digitally driven world.

The inspiration came from Key Cheytanov, founder of 3RC and creator of High 5. Her daughter was bullied at school.

“High 5 was born out of something deeply personal. It was a moment many parents will recognise. I watched my daughter show signs of anxiety and depression.

The session was interactive as the learners got to learn in a fun and different way.

“Not the kind of nervousness we brush off, but real worry that affected her sleep, her confidence and her light.

“She was being bullied and did not know how to tell me she was not okay. We must make time to teach our children how to deal with their emotions,’’ said Cheytanov.

She elaborated that she wanted to create practical tools, but in a playful way, not a therapeutic one. The five tools are kindness, safety, resilience, bravery and individuality.
