City of Joburg mayor leads oversight visit to boost water services
Johannesburg steps up water upgrades as oversight visits track progress in national infrastructure improvements.
The City of Joburg Executive Mayor Dada Morero hosted members of the parliamentary portfolio committee on water and sanitation for an oversight visit to assess progress in the implementation of the Johannesburg Water Turnaround Strategy on October 9.
This high-level visit follows the City’s first appearance before Parliament on September 19, where officials outlined ongoing measures to strengthen water supply systems and improve service delivery across Johannesburg.
Led by MP and committee chairperson Leonard Jones Basson, the portfolio committee is currently conducting a series of oversight visits to key national water infrastructure sites.

Their engagement in Johannesburg included detailed presentations and site inspections of strategic water projects designed to improve infrastructure resilience, water reliability, and reduce non-revenue water losses.
Among the key projects showcased during the oversight visit were:
* Crosby Reservoir and new pipeline, currently under construction to improve water reliability in Westbury and Coronationville
* Brixton Reservoir and Tower upgrade, aimed at boosting water storage capacity and enhancing system performance
* Water tanker depot and filling points, which provide an emergency water supply to communities affected by water interruptions
* Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant and Vaal River Intervention projects, led by Rand Water, which are critical to Johannesburg’s long-term water sustainability

“This partnership is vital to ensuring that Johannesburg’s water systems are reliable, efficient and responsive to the needs of our residents,” Morero noted.
