IEC cautions citizens against false job opportunities on social media

The IEC issued a warning after fake job ads appeared on TikTok, urging the public to remain vigilant and verify all job postings before sharing information.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has issued a warning to the community after fake job advertisements, seemingly from the IEC, appeared on TikTok.

The IEC shared the alert on its X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the messages and links lead applicants to e–recruitment sites unrelated to the IEC’s official website, opening job seekers to fraud.

“Do not fall for fraudulent job ads claiming to be from the Independent Electoral Commission. Scammers are targeting job seekers with fake opportunities,” reads the post.

The commission emphasised that real IEC job opportunities are advertised only on its official website: elections.org.za/content/about
The IEC does not recruit through TikTok, WhatsApp, random websites, or suspicious Facebook ads.
