Body of drowned woman recovered in Doornkop

The incident occurred in Thulani, Doornkop Ext 4, at the intersection of Ratanang and Langa streets.

Gauteng Water Policing and Diving Services have recovered the body of a drowned woman in Doornkop Ext 4.

The incident occurred in Thulani, at the intersection of Ratanang and Langa streets. Divers were deployed after reports of a body floating in a nearby river and recovered the body of a 55-year-old woman from the water.

The deceased was retrieved and handed over to members of the Doornkop SAPS at the scene. An inquest docket has been opened for further investigation.

Police media liaison officer Raymond Sambo emphasised precautionary measures to prevent unnecessary loss of life. He advised individuals entering dams, rivers or other bodies of water to wear life jackets and urged parents to ensure constant supervision of young children near open water.
