Legends Township Marathon returns for 29th edition in Eldorado Park

The 2026 Legends Township Marathon will unite athletes, community leaders and residents at Eldorado Park Stadium in a celebration of sport, youth empowerment and township development.

The Legends Township Marathon (LTM) organisers invite athletes to participate in the 29th edition taking place at the Eldorado Park Stadium, Cumming Road, on February 22.
• The marathon, half-marathon and 10km start at 06:00;
• The 10km walk starts at 06:10;
• The 4.5km fun run and walk starts at 06:30;
• The cut-off time is noon.

The LTM has grown beyond a road race into a platform promoting healthy living, youth empowerment and economic inclusion in township communities.

Organisers say the event inspires young people, supports local businesses and encourages long-term sustainability.

The marathon is expected to draw more than 5 000 participants and spectators, reinforcing its reputation as a flagship township community sporting event.

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie and CoJ Mayor Dada Morero will attend the race.
SA sprint star Akani Simbine returns as the ambassador for the second consecutive year, adding star appeal and motivation for local runners.

Lebone Litho Printers (Pty) Ltd sponsors the event. Founder and CEO Keith Michael said the company believes business success should go hand in hand with community impact, and that the event exemplified how sports and entrepreneurship could create lasting change.

Sheldon Tatchell, the founder of the Legends Barber, said the marathon was born from a desire to meaningfully invest in township communities, and that sport has the power to build hope, discipline and confidence among young people with limited opportunities.

The event will comprise several community-focused programmes, including support for local vendors, environmentally-conscious practices and partnerships aimed at long-term sustainability.

Corporate social investment initiatives include a school shoe drive, encouraging learners to join the 4.5km fun walk, and sponsoring entry for 400 primary learners to participate.
