Eldorado Park detective secures 18-year sentence for murder conviction

A murder suspect will spend 18 years behind bars after being convicted following investigation work by Eldorado Park detectives.

A detective attached to Eldorado Park SAPS has secured an 18-year imprisonment sentence for a murder conviction following a swift investigation and successful prosecution.

According to Sergeant Fezeka Khobo of the Eldorado Park SAPS communications office, the incident occurred on August 20, 2023, at approximately 8pm at the corner of Vermont and Wisconsin streets, Eldorado Park.

“The suspect allegedly encountered the victim without any argument, took out a knife and stabbed the victim,” said Khobo.

She said the victim attempted to run away but the suspect followed and continued stabbing him in the back.

Khobo said witness statements were obtained by Detective Sergeant Mosoeu, who was assigned to the case.

“The suspect was traced and arrested two days later, on August 22, 2023,” she said.

The case was placed on the court roll on August 24, where bail was successfully opposed.

The accused was later convicted on February 4, 2026, and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment, with three years suspended for five years.

Station Commander Brigadier Mkhacani Maluleke commended the detective for the successful investigation.

“The sentence secured ensures that justice was served and has helped remove a criminal from our streets,” the statement read.
