Curro Protea Glen learners explore career paths

Curro learners had the opportunity to engage in meaningful one-on-one sessions with expert advisors, who guided them in exploring career paths aligned with their passions, strengths, and aspirations.

The Rocking Future Career Expos (3RC) plays a vital role in addressing youth unemployment in South Africa by guiding school leavers in choosing appropriate career paths, equipping them with essential skills, and enhancing their prospects of securing employment.

On March 19, matric learners from Curro Academy Protea Glen were among the schools in Soweto that benefited from the Rocking Future career expos, which helped them explore and discover the exciting opportunities available to them after completing their schooling.

Curro learners had the opportunity to engage in meaningful one-on-one sessions with expert advisors, who guided them in exploring career paths aligned with their passions, strengths, and aspirations.

An interactive live show was also held, where learners received valuable information, career guidance, and inspiring advice to help them plan for life after school.

This was followed by dynamic exhibitions hosted by brand ambassadors representing a range of South Africa’s leading private tertiary institutions.

Speaking to Urban News, 3RC representative Liane Nieuwenhuys said the career expo aimed at bringing together a range of private tertiary institutions, offering learners the opportunity to explore various study options and career paths.

“We aim to expose students to opportunities and options they may not have been aware of, which is why we bring together a wide range of institutions, including flight schools and business schools, among others.

“This initiative is important because it shows learners that there are alternatives to universities, such as accredited colleges, where they can further their studies,” she said.

Nieuwenhuys further stated that it is important for matric learners to have a backup plan, as having only one plan may not always work out. Therefore, a plan B should be in place.

Head girl at Curro Protea Glen, Nothando Mntambo, said the career expo has helped her better understand the different career paths available and the importance of making informed decisions about her future.

She stated that the career expo broadened her understanding, showing her that there are more opportunities available beyond university.

“The career expo has been very impactful; it has opened our eyes and shown us opportunities beyond what we have previously been exposed to,” said Mntambo
