Learnership opportunities for youth with disabilities in Gauteng

The Skills Development Corporation invites youth with disabilities aged 18–28 in Gauteng to apply for accredited learnerships, gaining skills, experience, and stipends.

The Skills Development Corporation (SDC) is inviting residents from Soweto, Eldorado Park and the greater Gauteng area, including people living with disabilities aged between 18 and 28, to apply for its learnership programme.

The programme offers various subjects, including management. Interested applicants can apply online through the Skills Development Corporation website or in person at 24 Achter Road, Paulshof, Sandton, Johannesburg.

Applications can also be submitted at the Cape Town campus on the fourth floor of the Bloemhof Building, 112 Edward Street, Bellville.

SDC is an accredited learning institution with campuses in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The organisation offers businesses a complete platform to achieve skills development B-BBEE points by investing in accredited leadership and skills programmes for employees, unemployed individuals and youth living with disabilities.

The institution specialises in turnkey skills development portfolio management, a unique service that sets it apart.

SDC focuses on identifying skills gaps and implementing training programmes aimed at improving productivity among today’s youth.

The organisation also manages the selection and placement of learners while handling all related legal administration.

SDC marketing officer, Lindokuhle Ndlovu, said the institution has produced more than 23,000 graduates since 2014.

Speaking during a recent interview at Skills Village Radio, a platform dedicated to persons living with disabilities, Ndlovu highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in addressing unemployment.

The collaboration between SDC and Skills Village Radio is one of several initiatives aimed at tackling unemployment through meaningful engagement with impactful stakeholders across Gauteng communities.

Through this partnership, a number of learners have already accessed learnership opportunities after hearing about them on the station.

“I have never seen a place that accommodates everyone like this,” she said.

She added that she has gained valuable experience, especially in management skills.

Skills Village Radio presenter Tebogo Poopedi said working with SDC has been fulfilling.

“In the three months that volunteering forms part of the process, we have seen growth and progress within ourselves. It builds our confidence, and that is one of the biggest changes we have seen during the programme,” she said.

SDC provides opportunities for males and females aged between 18 and 28 who reside in Gauteng. Applicants must be Black, Indian or Coloured and living with a disability.
