Eldorado Park among communities supporting Cape flood relief drive
The organisation is appealing for donations of blankets, clothing, food and school supplies to assist families affected by devastating floods in the Cape Flats.
Families in the Cape Flats who were left devastated by recent floods are receiving support from the NPO Metro World Child South Africa, which is now calling on communities across the country to assist with donations.
According to Metro World Child SA representative Glisson Niekerk, the organisation’s teams on the ground in Cape Town were alerted to the destruction in the early hours of Sunday morning after floodwaters damaged homes in communities near Retreat, including Nectar Road, where the organisation runs feeding and outreach programmes for children.

Niekerk said the flooding left many families displaced, with some homes completely submerged.
“We are talking about thousands of families who lost their dwellings. Even some of our own staff members living in those communities had their homes underwater,” he explained.
Metro World Child is a global faith-based organisation working with vulnerable children in communities including the Cape Flats, KwaZulu-Natal, Eldorado Park and Soweto through school programmes, feeding schemes and weekend outreach initiatives.
Following the disaster, the organisation launched a donation drive aimed at bringing immediate relief to affected families, especially children who lost their belongings during the floods.
“We want to provide hope where there is hopelessness,” said Niekerk. “We are collecting blankets, clothing items, beds with bedding, school bags and food supplies so these children can know that their lives matter.”
He added that communities such as Soweto and Eldorado Park have consistently shown compassion during times of crisis and urged residents to once again unite to assist those in need.

“We never know who it could be tomorrow. In disasters like these, one person can still make a difference,” he said.
Residents who would like to make monetary contributions or donate goods can contact Metro World Child SA directly through its social media platforms on Facebook, TikTok and Instagram, or by reaching out to Niekerk at 073 740 1657 for collection arrangements.
Donations will be transported to affected communities in Cape Town, where relief efforts are ongoing.
