Ukukhanya Estate renovates Pimville family home for Mandela Day
As part of its commitment to giving back to the community, Ukukhanya Estate selected a family in Pimville and refurbished their home to help restore their dignity.
Ukukhanya Estate (UE) restored dignity to a family home in Pimville as part of its Mandela Day initiative, giving back to the community by dedicating 67 minutes of service from July 17 to 18.
UE estate agent Kabelo Bongo said the initiative was about adopting a home to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s 67 minutes of giving back. As a Soweto-based company, UE felt it was fitting to select a home in Pimville.

“We selected this home because we identified with the family’s story. We wanted to restore dignity and hope to the Msimang family.It was important to us to do something that we could look back on in years to come and see the lasting impact it had.
“We know that having a safe, functional home is important, which is why we undertook this project,” said Bongo.
An emotional Nonkululeko Msimang, the homeowner, told Urban News she was beyond ecstatic about the generosity, saying the family had desperately needed help to restore their home to a decent state.
The work carried out included painting, repairing the roof and ceiling, tiling, and replacing broken windows.

“UE has left my heart at ease. This family are my neighbours, and I have had to watch them live in these difficult conditions. For people like them to come along and do this is overwhelming.
“All I can say is may God bless them. I hope the family will now sleep in comfort,” said neighbour Nene Jacinta.
The company’s Mandela Day initiative reflected the spirit of Ubuntu and its commitment to serving the community.
