The ANC held a voter registration and education session for the veterans of Pimville at the Pimville Community Centre on July 25.

The day was designed to remind the elderly about voting and ensure that they are correctly registered to vote. Demarcation was also touched on, encouraging the elderly and the community at large to vote at their designated wards.

Bernice Swarts, Member of Parliament, joined the session, giving out important information to the elderly on how to vote and make their mark correctly. They were encouraged to take their time in looking for the party that they want to vote for.

‘’We started off our day at Nghunghunayne Secondary School, ensuring that we let learners who are eligible to vote know that their vote is important, and the IEC taught the young people about their democratic right.

“Voter education is important for our youth, especially first-time voters. However, we value our elderly just as much; hence we had the session with them, teaching them about demarcation and making sure that when voting day comes, they are in the correct voting station,’’ said Swarts.

Nelly Mthetwa, an elderly of Pimville who took part in the session, said that it is important that such sessions are held for senior citizens.

‘’We hope that this session reminds our elderly citizens that their mark matters. Their vote is needed to make a difference,’’ said councillor Siyakudumisa Makaula.
