Road Traffic Infringement Agency warns motorists about traffic fine scams

Motorists are urged to verify traffic infringement messages through official channels and avoid making payments on unauthorised platforms.

The Road Traffic Infringement Agency has warned motorists to remain vigilant about scams involving fraudulent traffic fine messages.

Road Traffic Infringement Agency spokesperson Mondli Mkhaliphi urged motorists to regularly check their infringement status through official platforms and verify suspicious SMSs or emails before making payments.

Motorists should contact the agency directly if they receive messages demanding immediate payment or threatening arrest, licence blocking or other consequences.

The agency’s call centre can be reached on 086 122 7861 on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00. Outside these hours, motorists should use the agency’s website and approved payment platforms.

Mkhaliphi also advised motorists to be particularly cautious of suspicious messages received during evenings, weekends and public holidays.

He encouraged motorists to check their infringement status at least once a week to stay informed about legitimate fines and avoid falling victim to scams.
