Dobsonville day care centre grows from one classroom into thriving ECD hub
Minenhle Day Care Centre in Dobsonville, Soweto, has expanded rapidly from a small one-classroom facility into a growing early childhood development centre, with support from IMBE and a strong passion for child development.
Minenhle Day Care (MDC) Centre, located in Dobsonville, Soweto, is soaring.
It started as a small early childhood development (ECD) center and has grown into one that houses a large gathering of young children from the community and surrounding areas.
Euginia Ndaba, principal and founder of MDC, shared that she joined IMBE, an NPO dedicated to supporting black women-owned micro- businesses in SA’s ECD sector.

“I have always been passionate about the development of young children; however, resources were a problem. In our communities, we do not know the correct avenues for such; however, I was one of the lucky ones who had people close to me with knowledge, and that is how I got to know about IMBE,” said Ndaba.

She shared that IMBE changed her life drastically, telling Urban News that what started as a one-classroom school has doubled in capacity, adding a jungle gym.
The center’s signage is now also visible.

She added that her passion for children has kept her going, and initiatives such as IMBE have encouraged her.

“Not only did they help with tangible things, but they have also bettered my skills and how I manage and oversee the centre. Most of all, they have employed educators to help us.”
She encouraged locals to join IMBE as it promises a better future in the ECD sector.
