Career workshop empowers Soweto learners to explore future opportunities

Learners were exposed to career options and leadership thinking during a workshop aimed at guiding their future choices.

The Level Up Soweto NGA and Imvelo Projects and Stuff hosted a Career Day workshop to empower grades 11 and 12 learners from Soweto and the surrounding areas in Protea Glen on February 7.

The workshop, attended by more than 100 students, focused on broadening their career perspectives and providing them with the tools to make informed decisions about their futures.

It featured a range of speakers and partners, each contributing to its success. The Department of Agriculture presented on the array of careers in the agricultural sector, a vital part of the SA economy.

A session from Masipati Tsotsotso, media liaison for the CoJ MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, followed, highlighting the influence of media and exploring careers in journalism.

A central feature was an essay competition challenging students to envision themselves in leadership roles, with the prompt: What would you do if you were a minister in any cabinet? This fostered critical thinking and civic engagement among the participants.

Tumelo Pride, the director of Imvelo Projects & Stuff, expressed satisfaction with the event’s outcome.

“Our goal is to bridge the opportunity gap that exists for many young people in Soweto by bringing these resources and experiences directly to them. We are investing in the future of our community and our country,” said Pride.

Organisers Pride and Nothando Zondo thanked the partners, sponsors and attendees for their contributions, and said they look forward to collaborating on future initiatives that inspire and empower the youth of Soweto.
