Kay Motsepe Cup registrations open

Schools can start registering for this year’s Kay Motsepe Schools Cup.

The Kay Motsepe Schools Cup is back again and schools from different parts of the country can start registering their teams.

Participating teams of this U19 soccer extravaganza will be battling for a whooping 3.4 million handsome cheque and getting their key players the exposure to scouts to help take their soccer careers to the next level.

The Motsepe Foundation, South African Schools Football Association (SASFA) and the Department of Basic Education are encouraging all high schools to enter the competition as there are plenty of benefits that are associated with the tournament.

Scouts from the professional clubs usually keep an eye on the competition with the aim of recruiting players for their youth development structures, then there is a financial implication with the winning school getting R1 million to spend on legacy projects that benefit not only the entire school, but the community at large.

Last year’s winner was Holy Trinity High School and its principal, Andre Catselyn said they will be taking part in the competition again and are hoping to defend their title.

He said the majority of the 2015 team will include players from last year who are part of the Supersport United Development Academy as well.

Registration closes on March 17.

For further information regarding registrations, SASFA can be reached on 011 567 2010.
