Paddlers of Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club shine
SCARC team shows strength and determination at Drak Challenge, with multiple top finishes.

Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club (SCARC) paddling team delivered an impressive performance at the N3TC Drak Challenge (NDC) in KwaZulu-Natal between January 31 and February 1.
The team’s hard work, determination, and resilience paid off, with several paddlers achieving top results.
Siseko Ntondini led the charge, finishing as the second Gautenger in 2:15, six seconds behind Clinton Cook from Gauteng.

Benjamin Mntonintshi secured 14th place, while Sikhanyisele Dekede finished 38th (10th U23). Wongama Makhasi and Chazani Gumede crossed the finish line in 47th and 48th places, respectively.

Lesedi Bobo, the only female SCARC team member, achieved an impressive 33rd place (21st female) and 3rd Gauteng lady.
Other notable finishers included Nhlamulo Mahwayi (4th U16), Sbusiso Tyiki (5th U16), Alulutho Tyenge (16th U18), and Sicelo Blaai (6th U16).
The NDC, one of South Africa’s premier canoe races, took place in the picturesque KZN Midlands.

The 38km first day featured tricky rapids in two gorges, including the notorious Glenhaven.
The second day’s 25km stage started at Castleburn Bridge and finished at Swartburg Bridge, with the infamous Black Murray rapids awaiting paddlers before the finish line.
The event was part of the Drak Adventure Weekend, which included trail running and mountain biking races.
