Diepkloof’s classic drops bars and breaks barriers in SA hip-hop scene

With a fresh perspective and passion that shines through every note, Determination Nhlamulo Mutapa (31), also known as Classic, is an emerging hip-hop rapper and songwriter from Diepkloof Soweto.
His passion is to teach the masses about hip-hop culture, its roots, and the business side, among other things.
Classic’s love for music began at a young age.
His journey was influenced by his uncle’s musical taste, which exposed him to a wide range of genres, mainly reggae and hip-hop.

He started freestyling at age 16, even though he began writing when he was 13.
From 2016 until 2022, he released a few singles, and he was featured in the Cosmo City entertainment column.
He recently participated in a Jozi FM song battle.
He is currently working on a project with contributions from heavy hitters such as High Priest, DJ Malefactor, Nate Africa, Mike Vegasin and others.
His latest single, Hold You Down, has received airplay on Cosmo FM, Sloot FM, and Jozi FM. An official music video will be released in June.
Hip-hop artists face the challenge of not having enough shows to promote hip-hop. When there are events, upcoming artists usually don’t get paid.
Through catchy melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, he aims to leave an indelible mark on the music industry and resonate with listeners on a deeper level.

“My short-term goal is to get a residence at Zone 6 and release an EP in September 2025. My long-term goal is to start a record label to help the next generation of creatives and Work with P Dot O, Feezy, and Makwa.”
