On Monday, the Advertiser received a call from ward councillor, Shadow Shabangu of ward 76, stating the park is being attended to.
On Tuesday when investigating, the George Sutter duck pond was buzzing with activity.
Metro workers were seen with their chainsaws out dismembering the old trees that had been an eyesore for months for residents.
According to Shabangu, “they will remove the fallen trees from the pond’s enclosure as well as trees that had fallen into the pond.”
The metro in conjunction with the parks department will also take measurements of the fence, and it will be replace by a two metre high mesh fence.
There will also be pesticide used to take care of the weeds that have encroached the inner fencing of the enclosure.
The trees on island of the duck pond will also be pruned and “the pump will also be replaced”, said Shabangu.
The revival of the duck pond is expected to take two weeks.
Project manager, Tsolofelo Hlatywayo, was also present at the park on Tuesday to oversee its progress.
“By next week Friday, the pond’s water level will be resolved”, said Hlatywayo.
Shabangu highlighted that he had informed Sakie Kekane on the situation, “people might not be aware of how these service delivery problems can be attended to, my advice is that residents must establish a contact relationship with a ward councillor of their area, address the problem to them, and then phone the Customer Care Centre on (011) 999 8517.”
The person’s complaint will then be redirected to the relevant department to solve water or even electricity problems in their area.
