The duck pond revived

The George Sutter park's duckpond is being renovated for a second in seven years.

DA and ward 76 councillor, Clr Shadow Shabangu, says the duck pond in George Sutter Park is receiving some much needed attention.

Last week the park was buzzing with activity and metro workers could be seen wielding chainsaws as they cut up the old trees to remove the eyesore of the trees which had fallen over, into the pond and around the enclosure.

According to Shabangu, the workers will remove the trees that had fallen on the pond’s fence as well as trees that had fallen into the pond.

The fence will also be replaced by a new mesh fence.

There will also be herbicide used to take care of the weeds that have encroached on the fencing.

“The trees on the island of the duck pond will also be pruned and the pump will be replaced,” says Shabangu.

The revival of the duck pond is expected to take no more than two weeks.

“The water pump will be up and running by Friday,” says metro spokesman Sam Modiba.

Project manager, Tsolofelo Hlatywayo, says that this will resolve the pond’s water level problem, reassuring residents who feared that the pond was going to run dry.
