The cold front is expected to be accompanied by windy conditions which may lead to fires, especially in informal settlements and in open grassland areas where these are difficult to control.
According to the weather services, the conditions, with the likelihood of light showers, are expected to continue until Friday.
“Our various teams including the Disaster Management Centre, the Emergency Services and other critical Council Departments remain on high alert to respond to life and non-life threatening situations on Thursday and Friday,” said Anthony Kesten, Disaster Management Services spokesperson said.
He added: “Residents should dress warmly and be very careful to keep open flames away from flammable materials.”
