Four robbers tried to rob Pep Stores at 9am, while the fifth was waiting in a silver Nissan double cab bakkie nearby.
They walked into the store when one of the store workers immediately noticed they looked suspicious.
“A woman ran out of the store as soon as she noticed the robbers, but one of the men ran after her. He grabbed her from behind and she started screaming,” says Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora.
Police officers patrolling the area heard her scream and they contacted Captain Mervin Kasavan, who was quick to arrive on the scene.
Three of the robbers were arrested, but the fourth one got away.
“When the driver in the Nissan noticed the police, he fled the scene also,” says Capt Ramphora.
After the police questioned the robbers, it was discovered they are from Soweto.
