Meat truck hijacked

A truck transporting meat was hijacked by fake cops on the N12 highway last Tuesday.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, a man was driving a 4 ton Isuzu truck containing meat, on the N12 towards Johannesburg at 2pm, when he was stopped by three Zulu speaking men.

It is alleged the men were wearing reflector jackets and their Toyota Corolla was fitted with blue police lights.

Capt Ramphora says it is alleged the men told the driver of the truck he was pulled off due to a broken tail light.

“But when he got out of the truck, one of the robbers pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to get into the backseat of the Corolla and put his head between his legs,” says Capt Ramphora.

One of the hijackers drove the Corolla, another a Ford Bantam bakkie, and the third drove the truck.

Capt Ramphora says, according to the victim, they were driving around for a while before the hijackers dropped him off in New State Areas, where he was given a lift to the Springs Police Station.

The value of the truck and the meat are estimated to be approximately R570 000.

No arrests have been made, but the truck was later found in Mamelodi.
