Young man commits suicide

A 21-year-old man committed suicide on the Daggafontein railway line on Friday.

The Springs police received a phone call from a resident at Daggafontein Informal Settlement reporting the suicide.

It is alleged the man is from KwaZulu-Natal and came to live with his brother at the informal settlement to try and find a better way of living.

“He couldn’t find a job and threatened to kill himself, but nobody took notice,” says Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora.

He was allegedly lying down on the railway track in front of an oncoming train.

According to Capt Ramphora the police arrived on the scene at 5:52pm, and it was an ugly picture awaiting them.

“Body parts were scattered all over the railway track and both the victim’s feet were cut off,” he said.

The police contacted the Springs mortuary to collect the body.
