“The urgent call came through at 7:30am and the matter was relayed to the team who attended to the leak,” said metro spokesman Sam Modiba.
According to metro workers on the scene, the pipe was leaking at three different places as damaged was caused by the roots of a tree on the pavement at the corner of End and Botha streets.
Nonnie Scheppel said the metro arrived at 9am and immediately tried to fix the problem.
Modiba added the site was visited by senior staff members who had discussions with the owner of what necessary steps to take for the alleged damages.
“Although the owner claimed the matters was reported at 2am, we only received the alert as stated above,” said Modiba.
He concluded the burst was fixed the same morning.
