Remembering those lost

November 11 is known world-wide as Remembrance Day, Poppy Day or Armistice Day and serves as a poignant reminder of all those who lost their lives during war - particularly World War One and the end of hostilities at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918.

Springs Boys’ High held their annual remembrance day service at the school on Monday where the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moths) from across the East Rand, SAPS and family members of lost soldiers gathered to remember the dead.

Past pupils, principals, teachers and even ground staff who have lost their lives were commemorated at the ceremony and wreaths were laid for them.

The service commemorated not only those who were pupils of the school, but also all the people who served in the numerous wars over the years.

At the service, poems were read by students and speeches given by Moths members as well as salutes from the Moths members.

A minute of silence was held to remember all those who have lost their lives in service of the country.
