New ventures for Epilepsy SA

It was a week of new ventures for Epilepsy SA in Springs last week.

The first Epilepsy SA charity shop was officially opened on November 13 at the Geduld branch.

This charity shop is the first in Gauteng and the Geduld branch was chosen for its opening because they were the one with the most extra space.

“We have to raise a certain amount of money each year and it is getting more difficult to do that. We decided to open the charity shop in the hopes that it will generate a lot of our fund raising money for the Gauteng branches,” says Gauteng Director of Epilepsy SA Magdaleen Kruger.

All funds generated from the shop will be sent to the organisation’s head office and will be distributed between the different branches in Gauteng.

The shop runs on donations of anything from toys and clothes to non perishable food and furniture.

Magdaleen says they do not sell the antiques they get in the shop, “We will collect them until we have enough and every now and then we will hold an antique auction.”

Epilepsy SA was also part of the Old Mutual ‘Community build a project’ initiative where they sent in a wish list and Old Mutual donated items to them that were on the list. These included a number of wheelchairs, big dustbins, a filling cabinet and a projector.
