New church in Springs

A new church opened its doors on December 1.

With the closing down of the NG Moedergemeente at the end of July still fresh in everyone’s mind, the opening of this church brings happiness to Christians.-

“Toevlug church is exactly what it says – a sanctuary or refuge for people hungry for God’s word,” says Pastor Danny Smalberger.-

The Smalbergers have been pursuing their dream for a long time of having their own church and Sunday’s opening ceremony was the answer to their prayers.-

Cathy Smalberger was the driving force behind everything.-

She started a prayer group from her home in 2004 and hoped one day to establish their own church.-

“The group of about 20 people gathered at my house for praise and worship. The prayer group grew so big and the need arose for a larger place,” says Cathy.-

After many options the Smalbergers decided to make use of their own big back yard and not long after that construction started.-

“It is such a great honour to see and experience how people in the community really still care,” says Pastor Danny.-

After many setbacks, the church officially opened on Sunday and although there were a few glitches with construction still not being fully completed, the congregation boasts that more than 80 people shared the celebration with the pastor.-

The church has its own band and anyone interested in joining the church band can contact Cathy on 082 254 3988.-

“We trust that the church will grow in strength,” says Cathy.
