FERHs warriors

Staff of Place of Hope, Far East Rand Hospital's (FERH) crisis centre, all dressed in purple and headbands, released purple balloons in honour of abused women and children.

November 25 marks the start of 16 Days of Activism which is a yearly campaign ending on December 10.

Jacobé Botha, senior social worker at FERH, says she is humbled by the participation of the staff and also the assistance of Netcare N17 for showing their support against gender-based violence.

“These women are the warriors of society,” adds Jacobé.

N17 spokesperson, Leana Haywood, represented the hospital and feels it necessary to assist the women and children at the crisis centre.

Daniëlle Murray and Martie van Staden, two North West Univeristy Potchefstroom Campus social welfare students, are doing their two-week practical as part of the community project at the crisis centre.

“We were inspired by Jacobé’s passion for abused women and children, therefore we have chosen to do our project research at FERH,” says Daniëlle.

She concludes that it is sad that the two weeks had gone by so fast and that releasing the balloons was a memorable moment.
