ATM bombers found ATM empty

Six thieves bombed an ATM, only to find it empty.

Two armed men entered the shop at the BP Garage in Ermelo Road on Tuesday at 9pm.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says they were dressed in blue overalls and balaclavas.

While the two robbers ordered the clients in the shop to lie down, four others, also armed with firearms and explosives, were bombing the ATM outside the shop.

“Much to their surprise they found the ATM empty,” adds Capt Ramphora.

The two robbers inside took airtime and cash, joined the four outside after the explosion, jumped into a white Golf GTi and drove off.

No shots were fired.
