Bins will become compulsory in Springs
The metro gives it for free to ensure proper refuse removal

Springs residents will also get 240 litre bins for refuse removal.
Lebogang Ramashala, spokesman for Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality, reacted on questions of Springs Advertiser after these bins were handed out to residents of KwaThema and other regions in Ekurhuleni from March 17.
Ramashala said each household throughout Ekurhuleni would get one of these bins. This included each household living in town houses and flats.
She did not say when Springs residents could expect theirs, but revealed the metro would notify residents before they receive these bins in their area.
She mentioned that it would be compulsory to use the bins for refuse removal as soon as the metro handed them out in the city.
To acquire a bin would cost residents nothing, as it is supplied by the metro. Residents will continue to pay R109.42 excluding vat per month for refuse removal.
Ramashala said the 240 litre bin was a legislative requirement in terms of the norms and standards for Waste Management in Gauteng.
“It is a more hygienic system compared to the bag system as it creates more capacity for residents to store refuse, therefore reducing illegal dumping.
“Proper storage of refuse also has an effect on rodent control as it prohibits access to a food source for rodents.
“It is also a very accurate system for billing for services rendered,” she said.
