Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says the operation in Guglethu/Everest was held due to the many complaints they received.
“The community complained about house robberies, murder and assault being on the increase,” he says.
Ramphora adds the complaints are related to illegal miners in the area.
The police were divided into five groups to cover the whole area and several pieces of mining equipment were seized as well dagga plants.
The two men arrested for illegal mining were charged as illegal immigrants as they could not provide the police with any legal documents.
