Another company cleans up the city
He wants to ensure a clean environment for his children and the residents of the city
Another business in Geduld has risen to the challenge to clean up some areas in the city.
On a weekly basis the business of Bob Gilles in Fourth Avenue cleans up Butler Park, as well as the area between Springs Theatre and Riebeeck Hotel and a park in Casseldale.
Llewellyn Scheepers, who oversees the cleaning, says the men work one day a week.
At Butler Park Lucky Mahlangu rakes up the leaves, cleans the flowerbeds and clears the park of rubbish.
He says this work had changed his life because before he could earn this steady income he had to stay on the streets. Now he hires a room and eats good food.
Scheepers says the man who cleans the area at the Riebeeck Hotel also cleans the public toilet situated opposite in Second Avenue. This place has no roof and used to be very dirty before the company stepped in to clean it regularly.
Scheepers says because this was the only public toilet in that part of the central business district, it was important to keep it clean for everyone.
The result of the clean-up is rewarding for Scheepers. The area opposite Riebeeck Hotel is now a place where people can sit and relax or have their lunch and people can use the toilet.
Another place that also gives Scheepers great reward is the clean-up of the park in Singlehurst Street, Casseldale as he sometimes sees residents relaxing in the park.
This park is situated opposite a pre-school and the effects of a clean park are that some play equipment was installed a while ago, as well as benches and tables.
Scheepers says because the park was so big, he has two men, Joel Ramudzuli and John Tlakotja, working there once a week.
He says he will not give up cleaning Springs as he wants to ensure a clean environment for his children and the residents of the city.
