This year she is redefining the way Rotary is functioning, says Lauren Webber-Froneman, the new president of Springs Rotary Club.
Froneman has been member of this club since August 1999 after following her parents and their friends who were members.
She will have four Anns to run the club’s Rotary Anns during the year.
Froneman says the club will have more fun this year by only having its usual formal meetings on the first and third Tuesday of the month, while the other meetings will be informal fellowship evenings.
Every member will slot in with a project in the club and the champions of these projects will give feedback at one of the weekly formal meetings.
Springs Rotary Club has several projects throughout the year.
These, among others, have book prizes for schoolchildren with leadership skills at local schools, as well as financially supporting SpringsCare CancerCare.
The club sends Grade 11 and Grade 12 learners to two Ryla-camps, designed for developing the youth.
This year they plan a breast cancer day for October 19 where a lot of trees in the city will be decorated with pink bows.
Throughout this day a fully equipped mobile clinic will stop at the entrance of Selcourt Enclosure to provide free female tests to women.
This day is organised with the help of Pink Lipstick and, besides the mobile clinic, will include a fun walk where all women may participate with a bra in good condition as one of the entry requirements.
Men may participate in the walk when they wear a bra on top of a pink T-shirt.
These Rotarians also assist the Springs Striders Athletics Club during their Striders 32-event by manning a water table.
The club recently received T-shirts from this club that they will distribute to people in need.
Operation Anti-Freeze, run in winter, is another Springs Rotary Club project when some members of the club give blankets to people in need and on Saturday mornings also give tea and coffee to work seekers sitting next to the road.
Winter is also a time when the Anns donate school jerseys to schoolchildren.
The Anns’ biggest project is the Easter Egg Run where they receive donated Easter eggs during an event at Sharon Park Shopping Centre to give to the elderly and vulnerable.
The club meets each Tuesday at 6.30pm at Cassa Nossa and anyone is welcome.
