Local business supports Geduld epilepsy’s unit four
Local business employees officially handed over unit four of SA Epilepsy in Geduld to its residents on Friday.
The relationship between these two organisations has come a long way, but the recent project left residents of unit four over the moon with excitement.
They were ready for a photograph with staff members of Sappi Enstra and the Geduld centre.
Elijah Masondo, spokesperson for the business says the project initially started as part of 67 Minutes for Mandela, but took a little longer.
The inside walls of the unit needed serious maintenance and the cracks were filled, walls were painted as well as the doors and door frames.
“This is a small token of our appreciation for all the good work the centre is doing in the community,” he says.
The residents clapped and sang a song of appreciation which made the Sappi employees realise how important their community outreach programme is.
Elijah says they take their relationship with the centre seriously and are always willing and able to help where and when they can.
The relationship with the centre started when the business’ management were looking for an organisation that assists the community and also is in a 10km radius from its premises.
“We were looking for a sustainable relationship and did not just want to do a once-off donation,” says Elijah.
They found it in SA Epilepsy Centre in Geduld and according to Elijah, the relationship works well.
Donations of food for the residents have been done this year.
Elijah says the well-established and well-operated workshop on the centre’s premises is another successful project they embarked on.
The residents and casual workers pack sample Typek packs for them and this project has been ongoing for three years.
