Sight of dead dog not welcomed by residents

A disturbing sight was seen by many Casseldale residents in Fryer Road, Casseldale on Wednesday.

A dead dog was hanging from the back of a refuse removal truck.

Jody Yong, a helper at the Springs SPCA, had left the premises at 12.35pm, when she saw the disturbing sight.

“I was stuck behind a refuse removal truck and what I saw was horrible, so I took some pictures,” she says.

Themba Gadebe says, the metro waste management services is responsible for the collection of dead dogs and this dog was dumped behind a bush in Selection Park.

Yong knows the dog is dead and nothing could be done, but she believes they could have at least moved it up properly.

She says sensitive children would have been beside themselves when they saw it.

According to her, people are quick to judge the Springs SPCA for not dealing with the animals in a proper way, but this inhuman way can be very upsetting for children.

Another large dead dog was dumped under a tree in Robertson Street, Selection Park.

According to Flawrence McGreggor the smell is unbearable.

Gadebe says waste management services provides an animal carcasses removal service that allows residents to call their local depot and the carcass is removed at a nominal cost.
