Refuse from several areas in Springs, including Dal Fouche, was not removed last week and the Addie was inundated with calls regarding the metro’s waste department.
Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, says the Springs waste management services did experience a backlog in door-to-door collection due to unforeseen incidents and could therefore not render the services as per the schedule.
Although refuse was still removed once a week, it was not always on the day indicated on the refuse removal calendar.
Gadebe says the refuse tariff charged is for one removal per week.
He recommends that residents leave their refuse that is not collected on the day of collection on the pavement for the next collection date.
“Residents must use the services provided by the metro, except in cases where special written exemption is granted by the metro to residents to make use of private companies for refuse removal services,” he says.
