Still no bins, as promised
Springs' residents will get their turn after the metro is finished in Etwatwa.
The residents of Springs are still waiting to get their 240-litre wheelie bins for refuse removal.
Lebogang Ramashala, spokesman of Ekurhuleni Metro said in May that each household in Springs will get these bins at the end of that month, but nothing has happened yet.
Upon asking why there was a delay in handing the bins out in Springs, she says the metro’s cleansing department is currently busy with the bin distribution in Daveyton and thereafter it will be done in Etwatwa.
Springs’ residents will get their turn after the Etwatwa people receive their bins.
During May Ramashala said the metro started handing out these bins on April 23 in Tsakane.
This process would have taken about five to six weeks before the metro was supposed to start handing out the bins in the Springs area.
Since then, the people of Springs were waiting in vain to get their bins and are still struggling with black bags.
The bins, according to Ramashala’s previous comments, are becoming a legislative requirement regarding the standards for waste management in Gauteng.
It is also, according to her, an accurate system for the billing of refuse services.
She assured residents the metro’s waste management services would notify residents in advance before they get the free bins.
