Andrit du Plessis, a Grade R teacher at Jan van Riebeeck’s Jantjies Sonder Tandjies, says parents should always pack healthy lunch boxes for their children.
“A sandwich with anything on, apple and small yogurt is usually the best choice,” says Andrit, “a few pieces of dried fruit alongside it will also be good for the children.”
Andrit adds that parents can sometimes pack something sweet for them, but says they have a tuck shop on Fridays where the children can then buy something sweet, so preferably healthy foods throughout the week.
She also says when the children go to school in summer, parents should either apply sunblock on their children in the morning or pack it in their bags to take to school as well as a hat to protect them a little more from the sun.
“They can also pack in an extra water bottle as children are very active and get thirsty a lot.”
