Alternative ways for light during load shedding
Load shedding is a reality due to current circumstances and those households without candles or lamps should start stocking up on lighting substitutes.
The age old method of using candles, although effective and easy to use, is not the only other way of producing light in the face of total darkness.
There are several ways to light up your home when load shedding hits.
There are varieties of battery powered lamps, solar and gas alternatives to choose from.
- Firstly and most commonly used, are candles
- Emergency LED lights are great to use as they last a long time and give a vast amount of light
- Paraffin lanterns are a cheap means of keeping the lights on during load shedding and last a long time.
Other more permanent measures include installing a solar geyser and getting solar lamps to put outside in the garden and take inside when the lights are out.
Battery operated lights such as lanterns, torches and other battery operated lights can be kept around the house when the power goes off.
Also try getting a head torch or cap, many of these are available at your local hardware store.
Investing in a generator may be the best option as it provides electricity to multiple appliances and can be used for more than alternative lighting.
