According to the Springs Afriforum branch secretary, Wollaston Labuschagne, the community believes the empty stand is an ideal hiding place for criminals.
He claims other concerns include illegal mining activities and illegal dumping.
Labuschagne informed the Addie about a recent meeting between Afriforum and Springs Customer Care Centre manager Ace Phiri.
Several requests were discussed regarding Ekurhuleni contractors cleaning the stand, and according to Labuschagne, Phiri was willing to assist the community with their concerns.
Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says council is in the process of replacing the service provider who was appointed to render grass cutting services on private stands.
The previous service provider resigned on April 13.
“Once a service provider is appointed, the stand in Daggafontein will be prioritised for immediate cutting,” he says.
It is believed the new service provider was appointed during the last week of April.
Labuschagne believes the stand should be auctioned for low-cost housing.
