A sad farewell

Several family and friends attended the funeral of Gert Fourie today.

The four-month-old child died after he allegedly choked on the porridge he was given at a Springs creche.

In a touching gesture by family, mourners came to pay their respects to “Boetietjie”.

The infant was finally laid to rest following a funeral service at the AP Kerk in Edelweiss.

Pastor Peer Malan was asked to thank everyone for their presence on behalf of the family.

Many people received special thanks from the family for their assistance during this tragic event.

Malan says this is the kind of tragedy that surely touches everyone who knew the child.

Although everyone present were grieving, close family members were all shattered.

However, the family are content with the fact the Boetietjie is in a better place.

The child’s father Gert Fourie (20) and his wife Monique (21), both say that they will always love him and he will always have a special place in their hearts.

The child was at a creche in Springs on Monday, when Monique, who worked at the creche, was called by the principal informing her something was wrong with the child.

When Monique saw her child she was devastated.

She claims Gert was cold and blood was running from his nose.

After several attempts to resuscitate him, she decided to rush the child to a doctor’s rooms in Springs.

They also tried to resuscitate the baby, but it was too late and the baby was declared dead.
