Ladies night for Vita Nova

Organising a fundraising event was no challenge for seven local women.

The Earth Angels recently joined hands in organising a fundraising event in aid of Vita Nova Centre, and the ‘ladies night’ took place on Thursday (May 28) at Scotties Pub in Selcourt.

The event, aimed at raising much needed funds for the centre, was the second project undertaken by the Earth Angels committee this year.

When these women formed this organisation they realised they had to create awareness and help raise funds for Vita Nova.

Chairman Louise Mawhinney says the evening was a huge success.

They were very impressed with the support from businesses and the community, especially from Springs resident Melony Losch, who sold the most tickets.

“Without them it would not have been possible at all,” she adds.

Elco Steel donated an amount to Vita Nova and several prizes for raffle competitions.

The evening’s emcee, Ryan Walker, offered his services free of charge and had all the woman entertained with his witty comments.

Two of the waiters, Ross Berlford and Sean Kruger, donated their substantial amount of tips they made during the evening to Vita Nova.

“Thank you Ross and Sean, your kindness hasn’t gone unnoticed,” says Louise.

Internationally renowned male exotic dancers then entertained the woman for the rest of the evening.

Several businesses also donated prizes that were raffled off at the end of the event.

Louise says more money was raised when the waiters were auctioned off.

The committee members visited Vita Nova on Saturday where they gave Michelle Immelman, the director of Vita Nova, an amount of R18 000.

Louise claims more funds are still coming in, and this too will be handed over to the centre.

Three pubs supported the fundraiser – The Deck, who donated the marquis, lighting, heaters and chairs, Scotties, who offered their premises for the event and the welcome drinks at the entrance, and Quench Corner, who sponsored the DJ and several raffle competition prizes.
