Newborn baby dumped in Selcourt Enclosure
A newborn baby girl was dumped in a wheelie bin in Selcourt Enclosure on Friday, October 30.
The mother (22) of the child did not tell her aunt and uncle, whom she is living with, of the birth at around 3am this morning.
At 7.45am, the mother pushed the wheelie bin to the pavement to be collected by the Waste Removal Services.
A man who was looking for recyclables approached the wheelie bin before the woman reentered the house.
He reportedly lifted the black bag that was lying on top and noticed a blue towel in the bin. When he opened the towel, he discovered the body.
The woman allegedly saw that he noticed the baby but still walked into the house.
The man approached neighbours to tell them of the baby, who then called the police to report the matter.
The local criminal record centre (LCRC) and mortuary were contacted.
Police had to use force to enter the house as the woman allegedly refused them access.
The mother was arrested and taken to hospital for evaluation.
A case of concealment of birth was made against the woman.
