These are the words on the Movember Foundation of South Africa’s website where the charity seeks to make a global contribution to men to live longer and happier lives.
Movember puts the focus on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.
This initiative started when two friends in Australia, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, met up for a beer in Melbourne in 2003 where the idea that sparked Movember was born.
They found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge which has since grown to more than five million participating ‘mo bros’ in 2014, according to the website.
Movember is an annual event involving the growth of moustaches during the month of November in aid of bringing awareness to health issues in men, which includes cancer and mental and physical health.
The foundation has grown to have 21 participating countries, including South Africa.
Men are encouraged to grow their moustaches to show their support for Movember for men all around the world.
