Dries says he has phoned and been to see the Ekurhuleni Metro about the broken meter but nothing has been done to fix the problem.
“There is also a pipe that is leaking water because the ground around my driveway is collapsing, leaving big and dangerous gaping holes in the ground,” says Dries.
The local resident, whose wife passed away in 2013, says he was fined for the broken meter, an amount he had to pay appeared on his water bill, yet the meter has not been fixed.
Dries claims that he was woken up by a horrifying screech in December 2013 and heard a vehicle smash into his gate pillar, but when he arrived outside his meter was broken and the vehicle was gone.
The driver of the vehicle is unknown and the accident was never reported.
“The metro is unable to do a correct water reading because my meter is not connected,” says Dries.
Dries wants metro to speed up the process of fixing the meter and the leaking pipes as he feels the holes in the ground are dangerous to someone who does not see them.
The Addie is awaiting comment from the metro regarding the broken meter and the water leaks.
