Truck loses its cargo on Wit Road

A large cargo truck overturned at the Wit Road and N17 crossing on Tuesday.

The driver of the truck and a passenger were on their way to deliver rhino boards when the truck overturned at the intersection at 7.30am.

According to the EMPD officials on the scene the truck got top heavy with its 34-tonne load, as the driver turned into Wit Road.

The road was blocked off for a while, to enable paramedics to attend to the two patients who both sustained serious head injuries.

Paramedics transported the patients to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Casual workers removed the cargo to allow for the truck to be towed away.

A canvas, that covered the rhino boards, prevented the cargo from being damaged by the oil spill caused by the overturned truck.

The oil spill was cleared by Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency workers after the truck and its cargo had been removed from the scene.
