Cactus flowers symbolise the birth of Christ

Echinopsis pachanoi, also known as San Pedro cactus, is mainly found in the Andes Mountains along the west coast of South America.

This large cactus can grow up to heights of twenty feet and contains mescaline.

Mescaline is a naturally occurring psychedelic alkaloid of the phenethylamine class, known for its hallucinogenic effects comparable to those of LSD and psilocybin.

Alkaloid are present in the bark of the plant.

The mescaline seems to be most highly concentrated in the skin, which can be peeled, dried and made into a powder for consumption.

The usual preparation involves boiling slices of the stem for a number of hours and then, once cooled, the resulting liquid is drunk.
