Copper cable recovered after shoot-out

One of three suspects was shot in his right leg, during a shoot-out that took place in Rhokana Street, Selcourt last Wednesday.

The other two suspects ran away.

The suspect is in a stable condition after he was admitted for medical treatment, but he’s under police guard.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the suspect was charged for attempted murder.

“The case was heard in the Springs regional Court, in the absence of the suspect and was postponed to December 8.

Ramphora says two workers were on duty and when they arrived at the substation at 9.35pm, they noticed three men pulling out a cable.

The suspects had allegedly cut a hole in the fence to gain entry to the sub-station.

“When the suspects noticed the workers they started shooting, but the workers retaliated and wounded one of the suspects,” says Ramphora.

The suspect will be arrested, as soon as he’s discharged from hospital.

SAPS are investigating an attempted murder case.

Paramedics were called to the scene and the suspect was transported to the Far East Rand Hospital, (FERH) for treatment.

FERH spokesman Hendrik Buda confirms the suspect was admitted on Wednesday evening.

“He’s in a stable condition,” says Buda.

The cable was recovered at the scene.
