Martha ordained as senior pastor

Martha Malaza (49), who works in Springs, was recently ordained as a senior pastor at the House of Restoration Church in KwaThema.

“This was one of the proudest moments of my life,” she says.

Martha, a KwaThema resident, has been working as an employee of the Springs Town Bowling Club for the past 17 years.

“I lost two of my best friends, both my parents, my two brothers as well as my sister before I started attending church services in 2007,” she says.

Going to church was something Martha felt she should have done a long time before that.

“I want to touch and change people’s lives for the better, regardless of their past or current situation, so they can have brighter futures,“ she says.

When she was ordained as an elder in 2008, she started getting involved in organising church events and was also introduced to preaching.

“Preaching became a passion and the more I learned about the Word of God, the more it touched my heart,” says Martha.

In 2013, she decided to further her knowledge and completed a one-year course at a Bible school in KwaThema in 2013 to become a pastor.

“It was a one-year course and I graduated with a diploma as a pastor,” she says.

Being one of the founders of the church, she feels going to church renews the mind.

Her advice to the youth is to seek first the kingdom of God, then all things will fall into place.

Martha’s aim for the church is to help poor people.

“I would like to build a shelter for them, a haven where they can feel safe and where they can be looked after,” she says.

Her future plans are to study to become a marriage counsellor to assist married couples. She would also like to further her theological studies, but says she has to put that dream on hold as she first has to save money.
